Food in the Park is a seasonal, friendly, busy cafe, restaurant, take away and Live Music Venue in Blair Atholl, Highland Perthshire, Scotland. We pride ourselves on our commitment to offering great customer service and satisfaction and we are looking for a Full Time assistant with the same values to help us continue offering this level of service during the last months of the season, from as soon as possible until early November 2016.

Blair Atholl is a thriving, bustling village during the summer months and Food in the Park gets extremely busy catering for customers either living in the village, passing through to visit the many tourist attractions or staying in one of the large caravan sites or numerous hotels and guest houses. We also run a Bike Hire business which, considering our location in the Cairngorm National Park, also gets busy on fine days! Lastly, we have a Frozen Yoghurt and Smoothie trailer that, when not positioned outside the cafe, caters at events such as music festivals and game fairs across Scotland throughout the summer.

We require one full time, hands-on assistant that is happy to throw themselves in to any aspect of our business during the last 2 or 3 months of the season!

We would welcome applications from experienced catering staff as we are in peak season at the moment and training would have to be brief! A mature outlook and work ethic is required, as is a 'can do' attitude, willing to take on whatever gets thrown at you (not literally, obviously!) Level 1 or 2 Food Health and Hygiene Certificates would also be a bonus, although we can offer training and certification in this discipline if necessary. Most importantly, though, you should have a fun, friendly and approachable personality – even during stressful, busy periods and be willing and flexible to 'muck in' in ALL aspects of the business!

As you can see below, the role is varied and you will be required to train quickly to work in all areas of our business. Duties could include:

Early morning chip preparation

Cafe and food preparation before opening

Taking orders and payment from customers

Serving customers

Preparing Pizzas

Preparing Coffees

Cleaning during and after service hours

Frying or Assisting the fryer

Preparing food before cooking

Stock control

Serving in Yo! Frooty catering trailer at events if necessary

Dealing with Bike Hire where necessary

All of our staff return to us year after year, so we hope this is because we offer a great place to work! If you are successful, you would be joining a team of 2 owners, 1 manager and approx 7 other assistants.

Our hours of operation are Monday to Sunday 11am – 8pm (11am to 9pm during the busy summer school holidays and sometimes until 11pm on nights that we have live music) and we work a three week rota of varying hours and shifts, which are agreed upon between employer and employee before being posted. During the summer months and school holidays the hours can be very long (if you are willing!), but we like to think that we offer a fun, varied and friendly environment to work in and the opportunity to earn good cash with those long hours for a seasonal contract!

Hours of work/shifts are typically either 10am to 4pm or 3pm to 8.30pm or 10am to 8.30pm 6 days a week on average. During the quieter months outwith the school holidays you can expect a minimum of 30 hours per week, but during the busy school holidays you will be given the opportunity to work up to 60 hours per week if you want the work!

The hourly rate of pay is in line with the living wage if you are over 25, or is above the minimum wage for any other age group. We can also offer a room in our staff house whilst you are in our employment. Rent is very low for this accomodation and you would just need to contribute to service charges om top of that. You will be eligable for a share of the tips each month and we also run a ‘free food for staff’ policy, which will keep you going on a long day!

We are looking for someone to start immediately and work until late October.

If you feel you would like the opportunity to be part of a great team within a friendly business in a gorgeous location, please apply with your CV and a photo, if possible.

We hope to hear from you soon!
